Questions, answered plainly.

Do I need to create an account?

No. None of the apps have accounts, sign-in, or a login of any kind. Buy with your Apple ID on the App Store — the Mac App Store for the Mac apps, the App Store on your iPhone for EasyGear — and open the app. DriveShelf's iPhone companion downloads with the same Apple ID, at no extra cost. That's the whole setup.

Are these subscriptions?

No. Every app is a one-time purchase. Pay once, use it for as long as you like, including free updates within that major version. DriveShelf 2.0 was a free update for everyone who already owned it. DriveShelf's $14.99 is a universal purchase — the same one covers the Mac app and the iPhone companion, so you pay nothing extra to put the catalog on your phone.

Is my footage or data safe?

CacheCut and EasyStills contain no networking code at all — not disabled, not opt-out, genuinely absent from the app — so nothing they touch can leave your Mac. DriveShelf's catalog is a local database on your own machine. It records file names, paths, sizes, dates and Finder tags so it can search them later — never file contents. If you turn sync on, the catalog goes through your own iCloud account to your other Macs and the iPhone app, not through me. EasyGear keeps your gear list on your iPhone and syncs it through your own iCloud too — on by default, one switch in Settings turns it off. Its weather and place search go to Apple, a shop search goes to that shop, and nothing is sent to me. The EasyGear privacy policy lists exactly what leaves the phone.

What do I need to run these?

The Mac apps are universal binaries that run natively on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and need macOS 14.0 or later. DriveShelf's iPhone companion needs iOS 26.5 or later. EasyGear is iPhone only and needs iOS 17.0 or later. EasyStills additionally needs footage in H.264, HEVC or ProRes — camera RAW formats like BRAW or R3D aren't supported.

Which drives and Macs does DriveShelf work with?

External SSDs, HDDs and camera cards, plus your Mac's home folder through Add This Mac. Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Photos and Logic libraries count as one item each, at their full size. Turn on sync on each Mac signed in to the same Apple ID. Every Mac then shows the drives of all your Macs, and so does the iPhone app. Each Mac keeps its own catalog of the drives it scans. Network drives (NAS) aren't supported yet, and there's no shared library for a team on different Apple IDs.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases go through the App Store, so refunds are handled by Apple, not by me. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. DriveShelf is a single purchase covering the Mac app and the iPhone companion, so there's only ever one thing to refund.

Is there a bundle across all the apps?

Not yet. Every app is priced and built to stay eligible for an App Store bundle down the line, but nothing is live today — buy whichever is useful to you now.
